Trochtelfingen liegt auf der Schwäbischen Alb, umgeben von einer vielfältigen Landschaft aus Bergen, sanften Hügeln, kleinen Felsmassiven, Höhlen und weitläufigen Tälern.
Die Geschichte der historisch gewachsenen Stadt lässt sich bis ins Mittelalter zurückverfolgen. In der Kernstadt finden sich sehenswerte Bürgerhäuser aus alemannischem und fränkischem Fachwerk, die größtenteils nach dem Stadtbrand von 1726 entstanden sind. Ein wahrer Fachwerkschatz ist das Restaurant Ochsen, früher Goldene Krone. Das heute zu sehende Fachwerk kam erst bei einer grundlegenden Sanierung in den Jahren 1976/1977 zutage. Das älteste Gebäude Trochtelfingens ist die katholische Pfarrkirche St. Martin. Daneben gibt es in der Kernstadt fünf Kapellen zu besichtigen. Eine weitere Sehenswürdigkeit ist der Stadtbrunnen mit der Figur des heiligen Mauritius.
Die Umgebung Trochtelfingens lädt zum Wandern, Walken und Radfahren ein. Zahlreiche Aussichtspunkte bieten nicht nur Ausblicke über die Landschaft der Schwäbischen Alb, sondern auch auf die vielen Burgen, Türme und Ruinen, die von der wechselvollen Geschichte der Region zeugen. Lohnenswert ist auch ein Ausflug zum Bierkrug- und Bierdeckelmuseum.
