The village is located right on the city limits of Vienna in the western Vienna Woods. Mauerbach is particularly famous for its charterhouse. The early baroque former monastery of the Carthusians is one of the most important monuments of its kind in Austria. In 1844, Adalbert Stifter wrote an excursion guide in which he described the view from the Tulbingerkogel in particular. Today, the Leopold-Figl Warte stands on the Tulbingerkogel, which was built in 1966-67 to a design by architect Clemens Holzmeister.
