Die historische Stadt Backnang, liebevoll auch als „Murr-Metropole“ bezeichnet, lädt mit ihren vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten und den verwinkelten Gassen der Altstadt zu einem Besuch ein.
Markantes Wahrzeichen der Stadt ist der 45 m hohe Stadtturm. Auf dem steil zur Murr hin abfallenden Burgberg findet sich das einmalige Stiftshofensemble mit der Grablege der Markgrafen von Baden. Ein weiteres kulturelles Denkmal ist das historische Rathaus, das sein heutiges Bild im Jahr 1716 in alemannisch-fränkischer Fachwerkbauweise erhielt. Kulturfans kommen zudem in der städtischen Galerie, im Graphik-Kabinett oder mit dem Kulturprogramm im Bürgerhaus auf ihre Kosten. Der Backnanger Plattenwald, der Naturpark Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald und das Murrtal direkt vor den Toren der Stadt bieten sich für Spaziergänge und Wanderungen an. Charakteristisch für die Landschaft sind die sanften Hügel und die Streuobstwiesen.
