Here lies the historic lighthouse of Hydra, built in 1883. Destroyed in the war, it was rebuilt and today automatically illuminates the seas of the island.
The lighthouse was built in 1883. The height of its tower is 10 metres with a focal height of 36 metres. It was destroyed by the Germans during the Second World War and rebuilt in 1946 as a kerosene lighthouse. In 1986 it was connected to the electricity grid and a fully automatic and autonomous system was installed in 1989 thus ending the presence of a lightkeeper.
