Hörnum's red and white landmark has been pointing ships in the right direction for over a century and is the only lighthouse on Sylt that can be visited.
History of the lighthouse
The cast-iron lighthouse was put into operation on August 8, 1907 to mark the fairway between Sylt and the neighboring island of Amrum. It was not connected to the electricity grid until 1948 - previously the lamp was still lit by hand with kerosene. There has not been a lighthouse keeper since 1976. The light, which shines more than 40 kilometers out to sea from a height of almost 50 meters, has since been remote-controlled (as in the other Sylt lighthouses). Between 1914 and 1933, the Hörnum school was located in one room of the tower - where a white ring can be seen in the exterior paint.
Guided tour
You can climb the lighthouse on one of the regular guided tours and enjoy a magnificent view over the south of Sylt and the neighboring islands of Föhr and Anrum from the gallery at lofty heights. Tours take place every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9.00 am, 10.00 am, 11.00 am and 12.00 pm. A maximum of 10 participants are permitted per tour, which is why it is necessary to book in good time by calling 04651 - 96260 or info@hoernum.de! There are only no lighthouse tours when there is ice, snow or wind force 6 or higher.
Webcam
There is a webcam on the Hörnum lighthouse, which makes it possible to enjoy the wonderful view from home.
Weddings
Civil weddings can be held at the Hörnum lighthouse from April to October! Further information on lighthouse weddings

Public transport
Line 2 of the Sylt public transport company runs directly from Westerland to Hörnum. The terminus "Hörnum/Hafen" is only 350m from the lighthouse.
Directions
The Hörnum lighthouse can be reached by car from Westerland in 25 minutes via Landesstraße 24, which leads from Westerland via Rantum to Hörnum.
Parking
The Hafenstraße public parking lot is located in the immediate vicinity of the lighthouse. However, this only offers a few parking spaces. Just a few 200m further on, the public parking lot between Hafenstraße and Kleine Straße offers sufficient space.
