The Faro Capo San Marco is a must for nature lovers, history buffs and anyone who wants to experience the original Sardinia far away from the crowds.
The Faro Capo San Marco is located at the southernmost tip of the Sinis peninsula in Sardinia, a few kilometers west of Oristano. Nestled in the Parco Marino della Penisola del Sinis, the lighthouse is enthroned on a rocky headland and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the wildly romantic coastline.
The lighthouse was first built in the 19th century to safeguard shipping in this challenging sea area. Today, the lighthouse is still part of Sardinia's maritime infrastructure and is one of the region's most important historical sea markers.
Public transport
- The nearest major town with a train station is Oristano. From there, regional trains run from various directions (e.g. from Cagliari or Olbia).
- Intercity buses (ARST, the regional public transport company in Sardinia, usually line 423 or seasonally line 824) run from Oristano bus station in the direction of San Giovanni di Sinis. Timetables are limited, especially outside the summer months
- The buses stop in the small village of San Giovanni di Sinis, near the church or on the outskirts of the village, and sometimes at the Tharros archaeological site. From there, the rest of the way (approx. 2 km) must be covered on foot
