Since 1978, the "Foundation for the Promotion of Literature in the Palatinate" has existed in Deidesheim. This foundation is supported by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the German Academy for Language and Poetry, the Southwest Radio, and above all, the city of Deidesheim.
As a rule, a new tower writer or tower writer is appointed by the foundation every two years. The selection of the new candidate is made by the foundation members. During their time as tower writer, they write a book, the topic and content of which are left to their discretion.
The local "office" is the tower writer's tower in the castle ditch in Deidesheim, where the tower writer holds their office hours.
The writer, or rather the female writer, has taken residence. He looks at old walls and a blooming magnificent park. And he reflects on what he has joyfully committed to: being a tower writer in Deidesheim on the German Wine Route.
In the ivory tower, which he noticed right from the first day, the writers here cannot retreat. Deidesheim's tower writers reside - at least symbolically - in a small round tower made of solid Palatinate variegated sandstone. This quaint building is ancient, and it stands in the heart of the little town - in the castle park. There, the tower writer belongs: in the heart of the city; and conversely, Deidesheim and the Palatinate should have a special place in the hearts of the writers who are temporarily in office and authority here. The tower writing has existed since 1978. In plain terms, it is called "Foundation for the Promotion of Literature in the Palatinate." This requires candidates to reside in Deidesheim for four weeks during their two-year term. The topic for their book is left to their discretion. However, the published result should contain a reference to the scholarship in Deidesheim. For this, they receive plenty of deputy wine, less financial recognition, but the respect and affection of the people of Deidesheim and the Palatinate. Many renowned authors have already been tower writers. - In recent years, Dr. Andreas Maier, Katja Lange-Müller, Dr. Arnold Stadler.
Most tower writers have remained loyal to the Palatinate after their two-year term. They keep coming back. Paradise always inspires Pegasus anew.

The Deidesheim tower scribe tower can be visited from the outside during the day via Burggasse or the Deidesheim castle park. Once a year, the appointed tower scribe or tower scribe lady stays in Deidesheim for 14 days and has public visiting hours in the tower. These are then currently posted at the tower/sign tower scribe. Additionally, as a sign that the tower scribe or tower scribe lady is in town, the tower scribe flag is visibly displayed on the tower.
