The Lakivaara lean-to shelter is a popular campfire site along the Saukonselkä trails. In summer it is passed by a hiking and mountain biking trail and in winter by a cross-country ski trail.

From the top of Saukkovaara, it is a direct 4 km hike and mountain biking trail to Lakivaara lean-to shelter (laavu). If you follow the 16 km circular route, the laavu-shelter is about 12 km away.

There is also a drytoilet.

The shelter is maintained by the municipality of Ristijärvi.
