Der Nebelstein ist der Start-/Endpunkt mehrerer Weitwanderwege, früher endete auch der Nordwaldkammweg hier, ehe er zum Mandelstein und dann nach Pyhrabruck zum Grenzübergang nach Tschechien verlängert wurde.

Unweit des Gipfels befindet sich die bewirtschaftete ÖAV-Nebelsteinhütte der Sektion Waldviertel.
