Unwind and listen to the birds chirping around the lake.
A large number of bird species have made their home around the Wichelsee, which is a nature reserve. The lake and the adjacent floodplain forest are a stomping and breeding ground for a variety of different bird species such as eagle owls, tufted ducks and a large colony of swans.
However, the idyllic lake is not only a paradise for birds, it is also a popular recreational area. If you are looking for nature and tranquillity, then this is the place for you. The impressive rock face in the background is also a worthwhile photo motif.

Location: 469 meters above sea level
The lake was created in 1955 by the construction of a dam. Most of the outflowing water is channelled through a 1860 m long pressure tunnel with a net gradient of 23 m to the Eichi low-pressure run-of-river power station, which is operated by Kraftwerk Sarneraa AG in Alpnach.
