Das Ulmener Maar liegt in unmittelbarer Nähe der Stadt Ulmen in der Eifel und ist mit seinen 10.900 Jahren der jüngste Vulkanausbruch in der Eifel und gleichzeitig in Deutschland. Ein rund 20 m hoher Tuffwall, der sich beim Ausbruch des einstigen Vulkans gebildet hat, umgibt den bis zu 39 m tiefen See. Das Ulmener Maar hat eine Länge von rund 510 m und eine Breite von rund 250 m. Seit 1926 gewinnt das Wasserwerk des Landkreises Cochem-Zell mit Hilfe von acht Brunnen Trinkwasser aus dem Maarsee. Von den jährlich gewonnenen 700.000 m³ Trinkwasser profitieren rund 30.000 Einwohner.
