Sie wurde 1920 bis 1925 erbaut. Die Talsperre hat die längste Bruchstein-Staumauer von Sachsens Talsperren. Sie ist 525m lang, davon sind 476m sichtbar. 25m misst sie an ihrer höchsten Stelle, am Fuss ist sie bis zu 17m breit. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg mussten deutsche Kriegsgefangene Munition in der Talsperre versenken, wobei es am 15. Mai 1945 zu einem tragischen Unglück kam. Die Staumauer wurde dabei sehr stark beschädigt, 12 Menschen starben bei der Explusion. Am Parkplatz unweit der Staumauer gibt es für sie eine Grabstätte. Baden und Wassersport sind nicht erlaubt, da es sich um eine Trinkwassertalsperre handelt. Seit 2008 ist die Mauerkrone wieder begehbar (nach 1945 war dies nicht mehr möglich). Gestaut werden die Rote Mulde, die Weiße Mulde und der Saubach.
Tipp: Im Sommer können sich Groß und Klein im Badesee unterhalb der Talsperre Tummeln und Erfrischen. Hits für Kids
