Einzigartiger "Silbersee" im Naturschutzgebiet Malscheid.
In unmittelbarer Nähe zum Hohenseelbachskopf befindet sich das auf einem ehemaligen Vulkankrater gelegene Naturschutzgebiet "Malscheid".
Ursprünglich war die Malscheid auch durch Ihre Basaltkuppe geprägt. Diese wurde jedoch, wie auch auf dem Hohenseelbachskopf, komplett abgetragen. Der dadurch entstandene Krater füllte sich mit Wasser, wodurch der einzigartige "Silbersee" entstand.
Das Gebiet steht heute unter Naturschutz und darf nur außerhalb der Brut- und Vegetationszeit (also nur von September - März) betreten werden.
