Lake Schödersee at the head of the Hüttschlag valley is the only periodic mountain lake in Grossarltal and a special natural phenomenon.
Lake Schödersee is located at the head of the Hüttschlag valley in Hohe Tauern National Park and is the only periodic mountain lake in Grossarltal. It fills mainly during the snowmelt and after heavy rainfall; during dry summer periods, it can partially or completely disappear, as the water drains away underground.

The hike starts at the Talschluss car park near the Gasthof Talwirt and leads past the Stockham farm, the old Seegut and through meadows and wetlands into the Schödertal valley. Along the way, the Elemental Nature Trail features information boards about the history, minerals, plants and animals of the Schödertal valley. Lake Schödersee is a special destination for nature lovers and a starting point for more challenging tours towards the Arlscharte or Weinschnabel.
