Der Rößlerweiher auf der Gemarkung der Gemeinde Schlier ist einer der ältesten Stauseen in Mitteleuropa.

Der Rößlerweiher entstand vor ungefähr 10.000 Jahren und wird schon 1155 als Stausee erwähnt. Er diente schon früh dem Hochwasserschutz von Weingarten. Ab dem 10. Jahrhundert legten Benediktiner-Mönche des Klosters Weingarten das 10 km lange Gewässernetz des Stillen Bachs an, eines der ältesten Kanalsysteme Deutschlands. Es leitete die Gewässer über den Rößlerweiher bis zu den Mühlen und Sägen der Stadt Weingarten.
