Der Plansee liegt im Bezirk Reutte in Tirol inmitten der Ammergauer Alpen.

Der Plansee ist der zweitgrößte natürliche See Tirols und durch einen Kanal mit dem Heiterwanger See verbunden. Der schon im 11. Jahrhundert erstmals als „Planse” erwähnte See ist wahrscheinlich (gemeinsam mit dem Heiterwanger See) Rest eines riesigen Schmelzwasser-Stausees aus der Eiszeit. Er ist nährstoffarm und die Badewasserqualität ist ausgezeichnet. Von den Elektrizitätswerken Reutte wird der Plansee als Speicher genutzt. Außerdem verkehrt eine der höchstgelegenen kommerziellen Schifffahrtslinien Österreichs auf Plansee und Heiterwanger See.
