Der Petelinsko See liegt bei Pivka im Einzugsgebiet von Postojna in Slowenien.
Der Petelinsko ist genau wie der größere Zirknitzer See ein periodischer See oder Sickersee. Das heißt sein Wasserstand ist nicht das ganze Jahr über gleichmäßig. Das Seebecken wird durch Regenwasser und Flüsse gespeist und verschwindet dann wieder in Höhlen oder Löchern am Grund des Sees. Je nach Wasserstand ist der See also gut zu sehen und groß oder aber sehr klein bis gar nicht da.

Von Ljubljana kommend der E61 in südwestlicher Richtung folgen und hinter Postojna die Ausfahrt Richtung Rijeka/Ilirska Bistrica/Pivka/Reka nehmen. Dann der Route 6 in südlicher Richtung folgen und in Petelinje links abbiegen und über Slovenska vas bis zum Petelinsko See fahren.
