Die Passer entspringt am Timmelsjoch, durchfließt das gesamte Passeiertal und beendet ihren Verlauf im Meraner Becken. Ihre wichtigsten Zuflüsse sind der Pfelderer Bach, der Waltenbach und der Kalmbach. Historisch trennte die Passer die Diözesangebiete der Bischofskirchen von Chur (nördlich) und Trient (südlich). Besonders beliebt ist die Passer für Kanufahrten und Rafting.
