The Kölnbrein reservoir is an impressive high-altitude reservoir.
The Kölnbreinspeicher is located at an elevation of 1,892 meters in the Maltatal and is a 4.5 kilometer-long reservoir belonging to the Maltakraftwerke power plants. From the Grossarltal, it is the destination of a challenging high-mountain hike that leads from the head of the Hüttschlager valley past Schödersee, the Kolmseen lakes, and the Arlscharte pass.
