Die Gestalt des Karlsbergweihers hat im Laufe der vergangenen 200 Jahre einige Veränderungen durchlebt: Im späten 18. Jahrhundert war er mit seinem trapezförmigen Becken, zu dem mehreren Terrassen hinunterführten, ein Stück reizvoll gestalteter Natur. Auf der sonnenbeschienen linken Seite des Weihers ließ der Herzog an den Hängen Wein anbauen. Hiervon sind nur noch die zum Weinanbau begleiteten Kastanien zu sehen. In der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts diente er, um Vorklärbecken und Treppeneinstieg ergänzt, der Bevölkerung als Schwimmbad. 2002 schließlich wurden die Uferbereiche sowie die mittlere Insel saniert.
