Der Heiterwanger See liegt im Bezirk Reutte in Tirol inmitten der Ammergauer Alpen.
Der Heiterwanger See ist durch einen Kanal mit dem größeren Plansee verbunden. Er zeichnet sich durch seinen Fischreichtum und eine ausgezeichnete Wasserqualität aus. Der Heiterwanger See ist genau wie der Plansee wahrscheinlich Rest eines riesigen Schmelzwasser-Stausees aus der Eiszeit. Von den Elektrizitätswerken der Gemeinde Reutte wird er als Speicher genutzt und eine der höchstgelegenen kommerziellen Schifffahrtslinien Österreichs verkehrt auf Heiterwanger See und Plansee.
