Der Listsee oberhalb von Bad Reichenhall ist nur etwa 0,4 Hektar groß und wird rein unterirdisch gespeist. Seine tiefgrüne Farbe ist äußerst markant. Der See ist sehr sauber, immerhin dient das Gebiet rund um den Listsee als wichtiges Reservoir der Bad Reichenhaller Trinkwasserversorgung. Auch die artesische Quelle des Bad Reichenhaller Mineralwassers entspringt in diesem Gebiet.
Von Riesen und Quellen
Der Sage nach haben die Untersberg-Riesen den Listsee geschaffen: Sie tanzten die ganze Nacht auf der Waldwiese einen Rundtanz und haben daurch den Waldboden so aufgestampft, dass sich ein großes Erdloch bildete. Dieses Loch füllte sich mit Wasser und bildete so den Listsee
Der 0.4 Hektar große See hat keinen oberflächlichen Zufluß, sondern wird von unterirdischen Quellen gespeist. Dieselben Quellen dienen auch der Wasserversorgung der Alpenstadt. Dazu wurde bereits im Jahr 1899 ein Hochbehälter direkt am See gebaut. Auch das Bad Reichenhaller Mineralwasser stammt aus den Quellen rund um den Listsee. Die Entwässerung des Sees erfolgt über den Hammerbach, der im Reichenhaller Stadtteil Nonn in den Hoswaschbach mündet. Der Listsee hat meist eine markante tiefgrüne Farbe.
