Die grüne Oase am Rande des Steinernen Meeres

Mit knapp 4 Hektar Fläche ist der Grünsee größer als sein bekannter Nachbar Funtensee. Durch seine abgeschiedene Lage ist der smaragdgrün schimmernde See dennoch ein wenig besuchtes Kleinod geblieben.



Gebirgssee oberhalb des Königssee

Der Grünsee liegt auf 1474 m Höhe zwischen Funtensee und Obersee im Nationalpark Berchtesgaden. Die Hochebene zwischen Simetsberg und Funtenseetauern, auf der sich neben dem Grünsee auch noch der Schwarzensee befindet, heißt Halsboden. Das ehemalige Almgebiet (Grünssee-Alm) ist aufgelassen und mittlerweile stark überwuchert und bildet eine grüne Oase am Rande des Steinernes Meeres. Der Grünsee ist - wie auch Funtensee und Schwarzensee – ein Blindsee, entwässert also unterirdisch. Das Wasser des Grünsees fließt durch die Salzgrabenhöhle und braucht mindestens 6 Stunden bis zum Königssee.



Der Sagereckersteig

Der Grünsee liegt direkt am Sagerecksteig, einem anspruchsvollen alpinen Steig, der von Salet am Südufer des Königssees steil durch die Sagereckerwand hinauf führt und dann in auf und ab am Grünsee vorbei zum Kärlingerhaus am Funtensee führt. Auch der Verbindungsweg zwischen Wasseralm und Kärlingerhaus führt am Grünsee und zusätzlich auch am Schwarzensee vorbei.
