Die Montafoner Reserve
32.000 Kubikmeter Wasser fasst der Speicher – und hier "schlummert" eine weitere Energiereserve. Denn mit dem Wasser können die drei Maschinensätze des Gampadelwerks in Bewegung gesetzt und so Strom erzeugt werden. Das Prinzip ist eigentlich einfach: Wird kurzfristig mehr Energie benötigt, holt das Kraftwerk Wasser aus dem Reservespeicher und wandelt die Kraft des Gefälles in Strom um. So können Schwankungen im Verbrauch ausgeglichen und Spitzenlasten rasch bedient werden. Im Hintergrund ist der Damm des großen Speichersees des Lünerseewerks zu sehen.
