Komplexes Wasserkraftsystem

Die illwerke vkw unterhält ein großes Netz an Speicher- und Pumpspeicherkraftwerken in Vorarlberg und im Montafon. Da in der Region starke Gefälle und große Speicher sind, stehen hier auch die zehn leistungsstärksten Kraftwerke. Die sichtbarsten Zeichen des Wasserkraftsystems sind die vier Stauseen. Vorwiegend wird Wasser aus der Silvretta zu den Speicherkraftwerken geleitet, die durch Stollen, Rohre und Kanäle unterirdisch miteinander verbunden sind. Damit wird unter anderem Spitzen- und Regel-Energie für den europäischen Strommarkt erzeugt.
