Es ist das typische Bauwerk, um Wasser in einem Wildbach zu fassen. Es dient weniger dazu, Wasser zu stauen, sondern es zu entnehmen und wie hier über einen Hangstollen zum Staubecken Latschau weiterzuleiten. Damit das Wasser keine Steine, Geröll, Holz und Sand mit sich führt, wird mittels der Rechen grobes Material vorbeigeleitet. Feiner Kies und Sand strömt in ein Absetzbecken und das gereinigte Wasser kann so für die Energiegewinnung genutzt werden.
