Spannende Geschichte

Die Anfänge des Gipsabbaus reichen bis ins Jahr 1714 zurück als ein Bregenzer Unternehmer den gewerbsmäßigen Abbau beantragte. Von da an steigerte sich das Geschäft mit Gips beständig, was auch fortlaufende Modernisierungen notwendig machte. Einen regelrechten Boom auf den St. Antoner Gips gab es in den Wirtschaftswunderjahren bald nach dem 2. Weltkrieg, der über Jahrzehnte anhielt.  Weil der gipshaltige Untergrund durch Rodungen und Wasser destabiliert war, rutschte allerdings der Hang immer wieder ab. So endete 1977 die alte Bergbautradition in St. Anton.
