The old park hotel

This building in front of you looks back on a proud history. Since 1989, it is a listed building. Why? Before World War I it was one oft the most magnificent hotels of the Habsburg monarchy. Hotels of such class were normally only found in posh spa resorts. No wonder that the Park Hotel in Villach attracted many famous visitors, such as a maharajah or Nikita Chruschtschow. The former was staying with an entourage of 40 people in the hotel and claimed two wings of the house. More modest was Nikita Chruschtschow, who stayed at the Park Hotel during a state visit.

The Park Hotel was also for a time the center of British life in Carinthia. After World War II the hotel served as a base for the British forces. A "Officers' Club" and a "Women's Club was quickly established. The British organized dance and piano evenings many British school children ate their daily meals here. Today the former hotel is used as an office building with a really nice café on the ground floor.
