Synagogue de Soultz-sous-Forêts

The neo-Romanesque synagogue was built in 1897 during the German period. It was the 3rd synagogue to be built in Soultz-sous-Forêts. The surrounding neighborhood, enclosed by a group of small half-timbered houses, was once inhabited by Jewish families. After the Second World War, the Jewish community moved from the countryside to the city. The Soultz-sous-Forêts synagogue was recently inaugurated for the third time since its construction. In fact, new work was launched in May 2015. The aim was to install authentic stained glass windows and restore the bulbs on the turrets. Listed as a Monument Historique since 1994, the synagogue still bore the scars of the Second World War. These traces of a painful past have now been completely erased.
