Sellingen's origins are in the Middle Ages. It is an 'esdorp', a collective farming village with a village square. Near the village square is the 14th-century early Gothic church. The earliest mention of the church, however, is from 1150 and when it was restored in 1972, it was found that a wooden church had been on the same site earlier. The Sellingerveld, previously a moorland, was cultivited in the 1930s in the interest of providing employment. Agricultural land resulted from this, together with 600 hectares of forest: the Sellinger Bossen (Sellinger Woods). Along the Dennenweg you will find the information centre of the Dutch Forestry Commission (Staatsbosbeheer). In this centre, the local tourist information is located, together with De Noordmee tea house. It is the starting point for a number of hiking routes, among them the Natuurbelevingspad (Nature experience path), which takes you along all kinds of miniature size landscapes, such as heather, forest, brooks, etc.The 'Theater van de Natuur' (Theater of Nature) is particularly notable, at the top of a hill is Adriaan Nette's art project: a revolving theatre. The hard stone stairs are part of the project: every step has a text engraved in it, among them writings from Kees Stip, a poet who once lived in Sellingen. The art work was placed after the renovation of the Ruiten Aa brook. This brook was made into a canal in 1960, but was brought back to its original meandering shape in the 1990s.In Sellingen there are various campsites, a park with holiday bungalows and the heated 'De Barkhoorn' outdoor pool.
