The Schnoorviertel is the oldest neighbourhood in Bremen.
The word comes from North German and means "string". The colourful medieval houses are lined up next to each other like a string. The buildings date from the 15th to 17th centuries. Today, the buildings house shops, cafés and restaurants. The coat of arms of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen hangs on many of the houses: the silver "Petri key" on a red background.
