Auf dem Historischen Wanderweg in Freiamt können Sie Geschichte erwandern und sich in herrlicher Natur mit dieser vertraut machen. Dies ist der Standort "Sandgrube".
Glashütten wurden, wegen des hohen Holzbedarfs, in den Wäldern angesiedelt. Zur Glasbildung wurde eingeeigneter Sand benutzt, den man möglichst in Nähe der Glashütte abbauen konnte – so auch an diesem Standort „Sandgrube“.
Hergestellt wurde vom Mittelalter bis zur frühen Neuzeit (etwa 12.–17. Jh.) das grünlich gefärbte Waldglas. Einer der ältesten Glashüttenstandorte im Schwarzwald ist der Glasig, frühere Bezeichnung Glashausen. Nachweise für das Hüttenwesen gibt es für die Jahre 1218 und 1291.
