Um ihre Städte mit Wasser zu versorgen bauten die Römer vielerorts Wasserleitungen, kunstvolle Aquädukte oder kilometerlange Tunnels. Die römische Wasserleitung, welche die Koloniestadt Augusta Raurica mit Wasser aus dem Baselbieter Hinterland versorgte, begann an der Ergolz unterhalb Lausen und mündete nach 6,5 km im südlichen Stadtgelände von Augusta Raurica, wo das Wasser offenbar in einem Wasserturm gespeichert wurde.
Die Wasserleitung ist noch heute an einigen Stellen begehbar. Einige Abschnitte sind durch Gitter verschlossen. Die Schlüssel dazu gibt es entweder bei der Archäologie Baselland, 061 552 50 88, archaeologie@bl.ch oder bei Privatpersonen (siehe unten).
Liestal, Weideliweg: An der Kreuzung zum Oberen Burghaldenweg sind zwei Teilstücke zu sehen. Den Schlüssel für den längeren Abschnitt erhält man bei Familie Gebhard, Unt. Burghaldenweg 19.
