The famous aviation pioneer Dr. August von Parseval was born on February 5, 1861, in Frankenthal. At Speyerer Straße 50, his classicist birthplace from around 1815 can be seen, complete with a shop extension from the late 19th century. The ochre-colored facade of the listed building is adorned with gray cast-iron elements. Above the door, there is an inscription board with information about August von Parseval.
About the person:
As a successful designer, von Parseval developed non-rigid airships, the so-called "Parsevals," since the turn of the century, which were built in a shipyard in Bitterfeld. He died in 1942 in Berlin. The Parseval airships should not be confused with Zeppelins. The latter had a rigid metal structure, allowing them to assume huge dimensions. Despite their bulky construction, they managed to compete successfully and shaped the term Zeppelin in the first half of the 20th century as a synonym for all types of airships.
