Until 1918, the former Palais Welzer served as Klagenfurt’s town hall.

The old town hall (until 1918), formerly known as the Welzer Palace (until 1737) and present-day Rosenberg Palace, lies in the middle of the Alter Platz. It was built in the 17th century at the main crossroads of the medieval core and with one of the most beautiful arcaded courtyards in Austria. Above the main entrance there is a painting by Josef Ferdinand Fromiller dating from 1739. Windows and sails of the corner building (Rathausgasse corner) are by Günther Domenig in 1984.
