OTI Pyrénées Méditerranée
Au centre de la place royale s’élève à 33 mètres de haut, l’Obélisque construit à la demande du Maréchal De Mailly, à la gloire du Roi Louis XVI. Réalisé en marbre rose de Villefranche de Conflent et blanc d’Estagel par l’architecte des lumières, Charles de Wailly, il est orné de 4 bas-relief en bronze représentant L’Amérique indépendante, La Marine relevée, La servitude en France abolie et la liberté de commerce. Aux quatre coins de la grille, quatre trophées allégoriques évoquent les continents connus de cette époque : l’Asie, l’Afrique, l’Europe et l’Amérique. L'édifice est classé au Monuments Historiques depuis 1920.
