The idyllic little half-timbered village with 330 inhabitants lies quietly in the beautiful Otterbach valley. Its townscape is characterized by two churches. Agriculture and viticulture are traditionally at home here and determine life.

Niederotterbach currently has 330 inhabitants, is characterized by agriculture and viticulture. The village has a town house, two churches, three bell towers with 4 bells. Niederotterbach was first mentioned in a document of King Otto III from the year 992 with which he gave Niederotterbach to the monastery founded by his grandmother, Empress Adelheid, in Seltz (Alsace). Today's town house was built in 1719 as a school and community center. The Catholic St. Nicholas Church was first mentioned in 1470. The Protestant church was built in 1816 and destroyed in March 1945. It was rebuilt in the years 1950 to 1952. From 1937 to 1939 the Westwall with 97 bunkers, one kilometer of hump line and four armored ditches is built in the district. 1939 the entire population is evacuated to Upper Franconia. 1991 Niederotterbach enters into a partnership with the Alsatian community of Littenheim. 1992 Niederotterbach celebrated its 1000th anniversary as an independent community.
