Un baquet de sable en guise d'établi.

Le demi-fût taillé en baquet et rempli de sable faisait office d'établi pour limiter la pénibilité du travail. Il permettait de caler le pavé pour mieux travailler et limiter le rebond en absorbant une partie du choc de l'outil sur la pierre.

Les salaires étaient très différents chez les tailleurs de pierre qui étaient payés à la tâche. Certains gagnaient deux fois plus que les autres, mais certains d'entre eux dépensaient plus que les autres. Un tailleur était payé 10 centimes le pavé (c'était le mieux rémunéré).
