Knoppermühle

The last miller of the Knopper Mill, Heinrich Müller, did not learn the milling craft of his ancestors. As early as 1918, the mill of the long-established Müller family ceased operations. Alongside the grain mill, the Knopper mill estate also included an oil mill over the centuries. However, the later bakery lasted the longest. Until the year 1925, bread was baked early in the morning and transported in the afternoon by horse-drawn wagon to the villages of Gerhardsbrunn, Knopp, and Labach. In the Landstuhl weistum, a record of customary laws from the Middle Ages, it is documented in the year 1500 that the miller of Niederlabach had to pay a milling fee of four malters and two pounds of Heller in meat money to the lords in Landstuhl. The village of Niederlabach, which perished during the Thirty Years' War, was located below the confluence of the Labach into the Stuhlbach. The mill was rebuilt. The surviving villagers, who were not dependent on the water power in the valley like the millers, preferred to settle after the war on the fertile Sickinger Höhe. They founded the new village of Knopp on the ridge. This name was also transferred to the mill around 1760.

The Knopper Mill is privately owned and cannot be visited. However, the mill buildings can be seen very well from the Mill Path.
