Kimo Ironworks was founded in 1703, and is thereby one of the oldest industrial sites in Ostrobothnia. The iron ore that was processed here came from Sweden. The ironworks is divided into three areas: The Upper Hammer with its well-preserved hammer forge, The Middle Works with its bar iron hammer, and the Lower Hammer, with its fine examples of 18th-century housing and typical works’ street. The hydro-power generated at the dams here is still used today.
