Jupiter Column

The over nine-meter-high Jupiter Column is a good example of how vividly ancient buildings can tell stories from the past. The inscription at the base of the column sheds light on a tumultuous chapter of Roman history during the time of Emperor Nero.

The column illustrates the coexistence of Roman and Germanic cults: 28 reliefs depict Roman and Celtic deities. Currently, the copy of the Jupiter column has been dismantled due to stability issues and is now being restored in sections. The original can be seen in the State Museum.
