Jardin du Livre

The "Jardin du Livre" is an initiative of the association "Jardin biblique du Wihr" with the collaboration of the landscape architect Jean-François Trouvé. The garden is located at the foot of the church of St Blaise, in the heart of the Wihr (former moat of the castle) The idea was born, here as in various other places, to revive the great episodes of the three monotheistic religions born around the Mediterranean: Judaism, Christianity and Islam through a path that passes through the symbolism of plants Paradise with its 4 pebbled rivers of the Rhine lined with fig, palm and pomegranate trees leads to Egypt and the Red Sea symbolized by papyrus, reeds and rushes. The New Testament, beyond the pergola of roses, is declined in twelve strawed squares. The Passion and Resurrection are highlighted by two stelae surrounded by thistles, Bohemian olive trees and poppies for one and white and yellow spring-flowering plants for the other. The grasses and daylilies then evoke Pentecost. Sage and aloe vera speak to us of the salvation of body and soul.
