Der Hexenturm wurde 1603 erbaut und ist der stattlichste Turm der insgesamt ursprünglichen 7 Türme und 3 Rondells der fast vollständig erhaltenen Stadtmauer Themars. Im 17 Jahrhundert wurden hier die angeblichen "Hexen" festgesetzt, in Eisen geschlossen, gefoltert und zum Geständnis gezwungen. Heute befindet sich im Turmwärterhaus eine Galerie.
50 m weiter, wo die Stadtmauer an die Werra grenzt, wurde der kleine Werrawiesenturm auf die Mauer gebaut. Hier hat die Stadt Themar an der Mauerstraße außerhalb der Stadtmauer an der Werra einen Caravan-Stellplatz eingerichtet.
