Gobeklitepe

Göbeklitepe Ruins is one of the most curious places in Şanlıurfa. The area is located approximately 15 kilometers from the city center and close to Örencik Village.

Göbeklitepe is generally known for hosting extraordinary findings that changed the course of history and overturned some historical information. Göbeklitepe is said to have changed the knowledge of the Neolithic Age with its 12 thousand years of history. With all its mystery, Göbeklitepe is recorded as both the oldest and the largest worship center in the world. With the temples found here, Göbeklitepe revealed the connection between religious belief and settled life and proved how religious belief affected settled life.

The obelisks found in Göbeklitepe are known as the most interesting structures that emerged in the region. These stones are up to 6 meters in size and are said to have weighed 40-50 tons. These obelisks contain animal figures and symbols.

Göbeklitepe, which still preserves its mystery today, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018.
