The main futuristic artists fought here. Don't miss the view from the machine gun loopholes and the tasty Pasta dell 'Alpino at the fort.
The fortification, built by the Austro-Hungarian army in 1862 to defend the southern borders of the Empire, is divided into two parts: the first is located on top of a ridge and is considered the real fort. The second, smaller part was used in World War I as an observation station on the road that connected Torbole and Nago, dominating the northern shores of Lake Garda. The Upper Fort (Forte Alto) was recently restored while the lower one now houses a restaurant.
Curiosity for history and art lovers: the most famous Futurist painters - Umberto Boccioni, Ugo Piatti, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Mario Sironi and Antonio Sant'Elia - fought here, participating, with their “Battaglione Lombardo Volontari Ciclisti Automobilisti” (Lombard Cyclist And Motorist Volunteers Battalion), in the occupation of Dosso Casina on the slopes of Mount Altissimo in Nago.
