"A beautifully constructed little town – surely one of the most beautiful in all of the Palatinate."
So praised once the poet August von Platen of Frankenthal.
An insight into the residential architecture of the late 18th century is provided by the so-called Forthuberhaus, which dates back to 1765. The single-story, symmetrical plaster building with a mansard roof and sandstone embellishments is the oldest still-preserved residential building in the city. The house is named after its builders, Joseph and Anna Maria Forthuber, whose initials, along with the year of construction, can be seen on an inscription above the door.
