The present castle house from 1686 rises on the foundations of an earlier castle built by the Lords of Schonenberg. It was built not later than 1539.
A "Torschlussbogen" with the coat of arms of the Schöneberg Chamberlain of Worms, known as Dalberg, dates from this year and is located in the Bad Kreuznach Schlosspark Museum. It is a two-storey quarry stone building with partially hipped roof.
The castle (or rather the castle house) was probably destroyed in the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War. The castle house most likely served as a hunting lodge and court seat during the time of the Ingelheimers. The former castle district is still recognizable today and can be spatially reconstructed with the help of a site plan. There is evidence that the castle district was surrounded by a moat and a ring wall. The well is no longer accessible today. The remains of the ring wall to the southwest were preserved for a very long time, the rest of the former gate can still be visited today.
Behind the former tithing barn there is an old cellar, which probably, like the barn, served for the storage of the taxes resulting from the tithing.
