The cattle gate, built between 1396 and 1418, is one of three remaining city gates, but it has lost its outer arch and gate tower. Remnants of a stair tower with a spiral staircase on the mountain side still bear witness to the latter, which was designed as a niche for a saint.

Upon closer inspection, you can still discover a few steps. Until the construction of Bramleystraße, as the above photo shows, the entire road traffic to Mühlental passed through the livestock gate, including the drive of cattle, from which the gate gets its name. A little-known historical fact is that rooms in the livestock gate tower were also used as prison and interrogation cells during the Rhenser witch trials. Directly below the livestock gate and the city wall is the guesthouse of the Verbandsgemeinde Rhens, which is available to the public for social purposes as "Alt-Rhens." The year of construction 1577 is engraved on a door lintel, which is now embedded next to the main entrance.
