In 1925, a concrete ceiling collapsed while a school class was ascending the tower. In 1928, the relief that had previously been destroyed by the French was restored. During World War II, two bombs hit the tower.
A first renovation by the Drachenfels Club took place in 1949. Further renovation measures were carried out in 1973/74; a shelter for the tower keeper was also built during this time. The tower has been listed as a historical monument since 1986.
