Amalienlust

Prince Friedrich III of Salm-Kyrburg (reigned 1778-94) commissioned the Parisian architect Jacques Denis Antoine to build a Baroque summer residence in Kirn in 1780, but it was never fully completed. The palace complex Amalienlust, named after his sister Amalie Zephyrine of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, comprised two pavilions (Teichweg 7 and 11) and a theatre (Teichweg 12) on an oval square divided from west to east by the mill pond. Only the water pavilion on the banks of the Nahe was demolished when the Rhine-Nahe railway was built. The winery building erected a few years earlier formed the northern end of the complex. The porticoes and a row of arcades connecting the two pavilions were also dismantled. Amalie Zephyrine von Salm-Kyrburg (*6 March 1760 in Paris, †17 October 1841 in Sigmaringen) married the hereditary prince Anton Aloys von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen in 1782 and is considered the "saviour of Hohenzollern". She belonged to a German noble family that lived predominantly at the court of King Louis XVI in the surrounding area.
